JOB DESCRIPTION – FULL/PART TIME SUPPORT WORKER 

Title –  Support Worker
Reports to – Management / House Leaders

JOB PURPOSE

To assist in delivering the Company’s Statement of Purpose, providing quality support to improve the life experience’s of individuals with a learning disability.  Support will enable individuals to have a chance of the quality of life that they want and deserve. Support will take place in individuals own homes, training houses and the community.

Acknowledge that all individuals with a learning disability have equal rights as everyone else.
Promote independence to individuals they support.
Respect individuals values and address their needs.

PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS
Support Workers will –
Be kind and honest at all times.
Will act in a professional manner.
Be a good role model to all those they support.
Adopt a flexible approach to their work and the needs of those they support.
Dress appropriately, presenting a professional manner.
Be prepared to attend training which will in turn develop their knowledge and skills.

SKILLS
Support Workers will –
Be able to carry out support plans as agreed.
Be able to understand the need for risk taking when supporting an individual.
Be able to write support logs clearly, concisely and in an objective manner.
Be able to understand the processes and structures of the service they work in.
Be able to make appropriate use of resources.
Be able to work alone and as part of a team.

MAIN TASKS AND JOB ACTIVITIES
Support Workers will support individuals with –
Accessing health care.
Budgeting
Shopping
Cooking and general meal preparation
Accessing work
Advocacy or help with self - advocacy when dealing with outside agencies and other professionals
Maintaining contact with friends and families
Accessing social activities and community facilities
Transport issues
Keeping safe in the home and in the community
Support workers will be accountable to the Manager and Team Leaders
Support Workers will be flexible and will be available for staff meetings and training sessions.
